Diet Food Tips for Those Suffering from Diabetes
From those suffering from diabetes, balancing the amount of food, and knowing what kind of food to eat may be challenging. The key to having a good diet is eating in moderation and having a regular mealtime schedule. Here are some of the diet food tips to always remember if you are one of the people suffering from diabetes.
- Be wary of what you eat by knowing the carbs, calories, protein, and fat. Focus on eating more greens such as vegetables, and cut back on carbohydrates and sugars.
- Allot a regular time for having your breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Having a constant time schedule affects your blood sugar level, and will keep it constant.
- Measure or allot a portion of what you eat. For example, a cup of whole grain rice, a small portion of protein, and a bigger portion of vegetables are much better in controlling the amount of food you intake. End your meal with fresh fruits.
- If you love sweets, it does not mean that you need to avoid having sweets for the rest of your life. The secret here is reducing the amount of sweets you eat. Instead of having soda, have sparkling water. Have fruits instead of sweet desserts. You can even split a dessert with a friend if you dine outside. Reward or treat yourself with a dessert once in a while. When you cook recipes, substitute sugar for honey.
- Carbohydrates play a vital role in your blood sugar, but you cannot totally eliminate them from your overall diet. You just need to know how to balance and proportion them in your meals. Instead of white rice, you can eat brown rice. And instead of cereals, have oatmeal. Replace white potatoes with squash or sweet potatoes. Balancing your carbohydrate intake will really help a lot in reducing your blood sugar levels.
- The intake of high fiber foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds improved the blood sugar level of the body. Moreover, you feel fuller, so you lose more weight and your heart is protected from any cardiovascular disease.
- Establishing good regular eating habits is a key element in maintaining your blood sugar levels. Stop skipping breakfast, and eat small meals that are spread out throughout the day. The daily calorie intake should be the same. Do not overeat on a particular day and then skip or reduce a meal the following day.
These are just a few basic tips to always remember and practice every day. Make it a habit and you will soon realize and feel that it isn’t a plan that you need to struggle upon, but a way of living for a healthier and disease free life.
